The DR2 Guitar Duo is Donovan Raitt playing with…himself. Presenting twin guitar versions of Donovan’s original solo guitar music. the DR2 Guitar duo is fingerstyle guitar reinvented for the 21st century. Through the use of looping technology and sampling techniques, Donovan is able to perform in a duo setting with only one person. Witness the future of the guitar duo as one person, live!

Formed in 2019, the DR2 duo started out as a question posed in a practice session one day. Could someone loop an entire song performance and then play a second guitar part over the original part? After trying out several loop stations and sampling options, the concept proved to be possible, and the DR2 duo concept was born.

As a solo guitarist, many musical options, including improvised soloing and contrasting melodic ideas were unavailable due to the constraints of solo guitar playing. With the looping and sampling technologies, these are now a possibility in a solo guitar setting. Donovan Raitt started performing alternative parts to his solo fingerstyle compositions to include counter-melodies, rhythmic percussion, and improvised soloing, and if you weren’t watching the stage, you’d swear there were two guitarists playing together..

The DR2 duo has been performing in bedrooms and living rooms across the Southern California area, and is actively seeking performance venues for this unique take on the guitar duo setting.
